Letter from Mark Ronning, founder of Northwest Veterans Law

Letter from Mark Ronning, founder of Northwest Veterans Law

Mark Ronning

Mark RonningIn 2013 I founded Northwest Veterans Law to serve the legal needs of veterans. We are the only Oregon law firm to employ all veterans and veteran dependents to represent veterans. We are the only Oregon law firm to receive the Platinum Medallion Award from the United States Department of Labor for exemplary efforts in recruiting, employing, mentoring and employing veterans. No other Oregon law firm spends every hour of every day representing veterans and their legal needs. Veterans trust Northwest Veterans Law because we practice law and serve our clients like we served our country.

I joined the Army in 1988 and served until 2013, first as enlisted Infantry, then as a Field Artillery officer and finally as a Judge Advocate General. As a JAG officer, Soldiers told me over and over again how they got the blue falcon from their civilian divorce attorneys. That is why family, divorce and custody law are a cornerstone of NWVL – to protect the rights of our brothers and sisters in arms.

Our family law attorneys understand military culture, pay, retirement, deployments, benefits and resources because they are veterans. Northwest Veterans Law also represents veterans in VA disability claims as we work every day of the week protecting veteran benefits in divorce and custody matters. Veterans need lawyers on their side who understand DFAS garnishments, VA disability law, military pay and military retired pay, legal parenting protections during deployments, the Survivor Benefits Plan, the Frozen Benefits Rule and the many, many other laws and regulations that do not apply to civilian divorces.

Other lawyers practice in divorce law but Northwest Veterans Law is the only Oregon law firm that exclusively represents veterans when they go to battle for divorce, custody or spousal support. We look forward to using this blog as a cache of information that will help you better understand your rights under Oregon and federal law. If you need us, we’ll stand by your side and fight for your rights.
